Events will take place between Tuesday 26th and Thursday 28th January and will include a special screening of the award winning film Hotel Rwanda on 26th January. A lunchtime discussion and debate will take place on Holocaust Memorial Day (27th January). Distinguished guest speakers Steven Jaffe, Mark Donohue and Dr Jonathan Bardon will explore how the historical marginalisation of Jews, Travellers and gay people has been overcome.

A world music and jazz concert, to be performed by Daphna Sadeh & The Voyagers, will bring the programme to an end on Thursday 28th January.

Hannah Crowdy, Interpretation Manager from National Museums Northern Ireland, says “The programme of events at the Ulster Museum has been designed to complement the theme of this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day which is ‘Legacy of Hope’ and its relevance to Northern Ireland. The aim is to highlight the message of hope for a safer and more inclusive society, while also encouraging visitors to reflect on the tragedy of the Holocaust and other genocides including those in Cambodia, Bosnia and Rwanda.”

Michael Black, Chairman of Jews Schmooze said, “The Belfast Jewish Community have welcomed the opportunity to work with National Museums Northern Ireland to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. The jazz concert will be an uplifting end to the programme and the Ulster Museum provides a unique location for people to hear this beautiful music, which celebrates the traditions of different cultures and the importance of reconciliation for the future.”

Booking is required for all events. Entrance to the film screening and debate is free of charge. Tickets for the jazz concert cost £15. For all bookings please e-mail les.mclean@nmni.com or telephone 028 9044 0000.
