Decade of Centenaries The Decade of Centenaries explores this defining period of our history that includes the signing of the Ulster Covenant, the Battle of the Somme, the Easter Rising, the War of Independence and the establishment of Northern Ireland and the Irish Free State. National Museums Northern Ireland’s collection through printed material, photographs and silverware, letters and uniform illustrates the campaigns for and against Home Rule, the signing of the Ulster Covenant, the growth of the volunteer armies, gun running, the Labour movement, Gaelic cultural revival and recruitment for the call to war. Some of these objects are directly connected to key events and personalities including, Sir Edward Carson, John Redmond, Fred Crawford and James Connolly.
