Archaeology Day
Published: 22 June 2010
On Saturday 12th June the Museum welcomed families to come along and join in Archaeology Family Day.
A range of crafts inspired by the Stone Age and Vikings were available to inspire and engage. These ranged from trying to make and design an air dry clay pinch pot to designing a Viking Shield.
There were also opportunities to try out quill writing in the style undertaken in the early monasteries and to have a go at making a plaited wool and bead bracelet.

Greer Ramsey, Curator, provided short talks during the afternoon on both Life in Early Times and the Vikings in Armagh. Children also tried to solve Runic (Viking alphabet) puzzles, word searches and a number of trails around the gallery.
Key objects showcased on the day were the Tynan Hoard of Viking bracelets, the Neolithic pot found on Scotch Street in Armagh and a range of arrow heads and polished stone axes.
It was a busy afternoon and staff received extremely positive comments from both children and parents; roll on Armagh County Museum’s next family day!
