 St Brigid's week

Pupil making a St Brigid's cross at Armagh County MuseumDuring 1st - 5th February the Museum has been running its first ever series of Saint Brigid workshops for Key Stage 2 pupils.

The highlight of the session was the making of a St Brigid cross using green rushes.  Every pupil left with a cross to display over the door to protect their home, according to tradition, from fire, lightening, illness and harm!

Pupils also used the Museum’s collections to explore the history of the celebration of St Brigid’s day and the practices that used to take place to celebrate what was regarded as the start of Spring.
