Passage receipt

Booking receipt for James Dougherty and wife and three children for passage ‘on the first of September next’ on board the Chance bound to Quebec on paying the sum of seven pounds and ten shillings to David Grainger, 16 Donegall Quay, Belfast, August 4th 1837, per Thomas Danaghy.

The small type at the bottom of the document reads ‘Passengers will be particular in observing, that unless they attend in Belfast, on the day notice is given by public advertisement to be on board, their places may be filled, their deposits become forfeited, and they are held liable for the full sum of passage money entered in their tickets per agreement.’
