Synthetic nets used for fishing today are long lasting but in the past they were made of natural materials which required alot of maintenance. The nets had to be carefully dried and often needed mending.

Nowadays fishing boats have engines but the fishermen still know how to use sails and oars. 

 

Eels are fished using lines, nets and sometimes traps.
