Courtroom drama
Caught in the Act
This is an exciting opportunity for your class to re-enact true stories of children accused of minor crimes in Victorian times. In the Museum’s 19th century courthouse, they will act out the parts of witnesses, policemen, jury members, clerks of the court and defendants. The case is heard by a Justice of the Peace who questions all concerned, but it is the jury who must decide whether or not the defendant is guilty.
Your class can demonstrate their dramatic flair, listening and reasoning skills and explore justice, past and present. All discussions are age appropriate.
- Students and teachers can arrive dressed in Victorian-style clothing.
- All preparation will be carried out on the day by Museum staff.
- Please note – students in lead roles will be expected to retain information relating to the story and relay this to the judge in the courthouse.
- All students will participate at some level.
