Contemporary glass collection
The Ulster Museum has been innovative in its policy of collecting contemporary glass. Unique in Ireland, the collection is internationally important and continues to chart new movements within glass art.
Highlights of the collection are pieces made by glass artists from the Czech Republic. Stanislav Libensky / Jaroslava Brychtova, Pavel Hlava, Jan Fisar and Jiri Harcuba are a few whose work is present in the collection. It also includes the magnificent Kuros II sculpture by Ivana Sramkova. Standing two metres tall this abstract human figure is one of the most important pieces by the artist held in any museum in the world. Recent additions to the collection include work by Keiko Mukaide and Rachael Woodman.
