Contemporary Collections

Much recent attention has been focused on specimens associated with the history of Northern Ireland over the last two generations, including the Troubles. It is worth remembering that the Ulster Museum and its predecessors have always collected contemporary material: our copy of the 1916 Proclamation was acquired in April 1916.
Examples of the more recent Troubles include Mairead Corrigan's 1976 Nobel Peace Medal, Rowel Friers' 1970s cartoons, Rev Joseph Parker's 'What Price Peace? material, 2nd Battalion IRA Roll of Honour,. Long Kesh 1974; Loyalist Long Kesh Banner 12 July 1974'; damaged RUC Riot helmet, etc.
