Books, images and archives
The Ulster Museum has a valuable archive of geology-related printed material. This includes some of the earliest geological maps, notably those of William Smith and Richard Griffith, and a complete holding of the Geological Survey of Ireland’s maps and Memoirs from both the 19th and 20th centuries.

Among many thousands of geology-related photographs in the Ulster Museum collections are Robert J. Welch’s geological photographs and those of the Irish section of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. A modest collection of geological art includes Neave Parker’s original drawings of dinosaurs for the Illustrated London News.
The geology department has computerised databases of information relating to specimens in the collection, to collectors, and to themes in geology.
