Wendy sets wheels in motion for 2010 Lecture Series
Published: 22 February 2010
Olympic medallist and Northern Ireland sporting star Wendy Houvenaghel will exchange her bike for a lectern as part of this year’s Northern Bank Ulster Museum Lecture Series, supported by the Belfast Telegraph.
The lecture series, now in its 30th year, will include some of the best known figures in sport, music, food and culture and will take place in the recently rejuvenated Ulster Museum.
The series, which has been sponsored by the Northern Bank since 1980, will begin next month with a lecture on ‘Is there too much music?’ by top music critic and author of the highly acclaimed book ‘Killing Bono’, Neil McCormick. The line-up also includes leading food critic Matthew Fort and popular historian and author Dr Bettany Hughes.
Gillian McLean, Director of Marketing, Communications & Trading for National Museums Northern Ireland, said the lecture series continues to grow in prestige and popularity. “The Ulster Museum has enjoyed working with the Northern Bank for the last 30 years, delivering a lecture series with an outstanding reputation. Once again we have a superb line-up of some of Europe’s most notable sporting personalities, writers and authors, historians and broadcasters which will appeal to audiences of all ages.”
She added, “In recent years, the Lecture Series has gone ‘on the road’ as part of our Outreach Programme during refurbishment. We are delighted to bring the Northern Bank Ulster Museum Lecture Series back to the rejuvenated museum offering a fresh opportunity to connect the museum with a wider audience.”
Rosamond Bennett, Northern Bank Head of Communications said of the series, “We are proud to continue our longstanding and award-winning partnership with the Ulster Museum and are particularly excited this year to bring the Northern Bank lectures back to this wonderful and much loved venue. There is something for everyone in the series again this year, from popular culture to sporting achievement, hosted in the spectacular surroundings of the newly revitalised Ulster Museum.”
Neil McCormick’s lecture, the first in the series, will take place in the Ulster Museum on Wednesday 10th March at 7.30pm. For further information download the programme (PDF 270KB) or visit www.nmni.com/what'son. To book tickets call the Ulster Museum on 028 9044 0051.
