Flights of Fancy features over two hundred of the Ulster Museum’s finest mounted birds.
Many of the specimens were collected in Ireland during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by local natural history enthusiasts.
Most of the birds were prepared by a well-known Belfast taxidermist, James Sheals, and his sons. The Sheals’ bird mounts are among the best examples of Victorian taxidermy in the world (click image to enlarge).
