John Lynch and Nicole Mezey discuss the idea of a Nation State
Concepts of “the Nation” and of “Nationhood” are much discussed and politically vibrant, but the notion of the nation state is a relatively new one. In these complementary lectures, John Lynch will discuss the birth of these ideas in the mid 19th century, and the early struggles to achieve autonomy, and Nicole Mezey will look at some of the ways in which painting and architecture express the developing sense of national identity in peoples across Europe, from Bavaria to Ireland.
This is to be held in the Ulster Musuem Lecture Theatre. Session costs £10.00 (£8.00) concession. Fee includes the two lectures with refreshments at the interval.
