Keeping You Safe

Help us keep you safe

Social distancing

You should still try to keep a safe distance when exploring the museum. We can monitor the number of people on the museum site and in exhibit buildings at any one time with the pre-booking system we have in place, allowing visitors and staff to give each other plenty of space.

Face coverings

We still recommend you wear a face covering in all of our indoor spaces as advised here by Government guidelines, unless you are exempt. Face coverings will be available to purchase in our museum shop if you forget to bring your own.

Cleaning and hygiene

We have increased cleaning across the museum to keep a safe and clean environment for all.

Sanitisers are in place but we ask you not to handle objects in our exhibit buildings, in order to keep you, and them, safe. See who can keep their hands by their side the longest! Remember to clean your hands regularly.

We have also installed protective screens at our Admission Desk and retail points.

Recommended route

Our recommended routes around the museum provides plenty of opportunity to explore our rolling countryside and town at your leisure whilst ensuring social distancing. Read more about getting around the museum

Our facilities

Toilets are only able to accommodate one household at a time so don’t leave it too late!

Ballycultra Tearooms will be open during museum hours offering food and refreshments.  Capacity in the Tearooms is aligned to current government guidelines and subject to change. Cashless payment is advised. If you prefer, you can also bring a picnic to enjoy outdoors on picnic benches dotted around the museum.

Gift shop

Please continue to keep a safe distance in store and give others space. Cash is accepted but contactless payment is advised where possible. We have also extended our refund policy to 60 days on all items (except earrings and food).

We feel it is important to reach out and support all of our local suppliers and makers at this time and will be promoting and showcasing their work in store. Every sale also supports the work of National Museums NI.
