Keeping You Safe

Help us keep you safe on your visit

Social Distancing

You should still try and keep a safe distance when walking around the museum.

Face coverings

The safety of our visitors and staff is still a top priority, therefore we recommend you still wear a face covering indoors for the protection of yourself and others, as advised here by Government guidelines, unless you are exempt.

Covid-19 Status

You will not be required to show proof of Covid-19 status when entering Ulster Museum as a visitor or for events.

Cleaning and hygiene

We have increased cleaning across our site to keep a safe and clean environment for all.

Sanitisers will be in place but we ask you not to handle objects, in order to keep you, and them, safe. See who can keep their hands by their side the longest! To reduce handling, some of our video exhibits will be kept on with subtitles for you to enjoy at your leisure. Remember to clean your hands regularly.

We have also installed protective screens at our Welcome Desk and retail points.

Recommended Route

Our recommended route around the museum provides plenty of opportunity to enjoy our exhibitions at your leisure. Start your museum journey on the fifth floor art galleries and follow the galleries through to nature and history. Fast-track routes are available for visitors looking to see particular areas of the museum, ask our welcome guides on arrival for the best route to take. Read more about getting around the museum.

Our facilities

Toilets

All of our toilet facilities are open.

Café

Our Wynne & Pym café is open during museum hours serving a wide selection of food and refreshments.  Capacity in the café is aligned to current government guidelines and subject to change. When you arrive, place your order at the counter and then take a seat. Our staff will deliver your order to your table. You’re encouraged to wear a face covering when walking around the café but not when seated at your table. Contactless payment is advised.

If you wish, you can also bring a picnic to eat outdoors in Botanic Gardens.

Gift shop

Our gift shop will be open. Please continue to keep a safe distance in store and give others space. Cash is accepted but contactless payment is advised where possible. We have also extended our refund policy to 60 days on all items (except earrings and food).

We feel it is important to reach out and support all of our local suppliers and makers at this time and will be promoting and showcasing their work in-store. Every sale also supports the work of National Museums NI.
