Step back in time to Ballycultra where you’ll experience the customs, values and traditions of Christmastime in Ulster over 100 years ago.

Stroll through cobblestone streets and see shops and houses bedecked in traditional Christmas decorations. Soak up the seasonal smells of peat fires, oil lamps, and Christmas fayre baking on the open hearth. Experience crafts such as printing and basket making, or watch the blacksmith hard at work in the forge. See how local people celebrated the festive season, from labourers in Tea Lane to white-collar-workers in the Bank Manager's house.

Meet Mrs Mellon as she prepares the home and the dinner table for Christmas Day. See Christmas cards and letters from emigrants to family and friends kept apart by distance. Marvel at our uniquely decorated Christmas tree and a fine display of wooden toys in the American General Store. Learn how straw masks worn by Christmas Mummers across rural Ulster were made, decorating their heads as they travelled door to door bringing music and merriment. 

Stop by our Loaf Café for takeaway sweet treats and seasonal refreshments, including hot chocolate with marshmallows and warm mince pies, and pop into our gift shop to browse our unique selection of gifts and souvenirs perfect for Christmas.
