Description:
André Lhote was one of the most influential French Cubist painters of the early decades of this century. Apart from his own work he was well-known as a teacher of painting and imbued the principles of Cubism upon many subsequently famous artists, including the Irish painters Mainie Jellett (1897-1944) and Evie Hone (1894-1955). In his work his use of simplified forms and formalized structures is self-evident and the domesticity of the subject-matter is characteristic of his art in general.
