The film actress Anna May Wong (born Los Angeles 1907; died Santa Monica 1961) played exotic oriental roles in many films, including Douglas Fairbanks's 'The Thief of Baghdad' (1924) and Sternberg's 'Shanghai Express' (1932). Benno Schotz exhibited this bronze head in the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts in 1934. In 1938 he was appointed head of sculpture and ceramics at the Glasgow School of Art, from which he retired in 1960.
