Black Sun (1967)

This is a unique cast made from the original of this piece which was carved in black tamba granite. The surface of the bronze has been lacquered in order that it might more closely resemble the appearance of the original which was commissioned for the marble garden of the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University. In much of Noguchi's work the image of the sun symbolises the source of energy and life.
