Photographic negative showing the Michael Dwyer '98 Club, members and banner, c.1902. Michael Dwyer was born in Wicklow, Ireland, in 1772. He took part in the 1798 rising, he evaded capture until he surrendered in 1803 on condition that he be sent to America. In 1806 the Government sent him to Australia, accompanied by his wife, Mary, whom he had married in November 1798. They had to leave their four children behind in Ireland with Michael's parents.
