Description:

design : Operative House and Ship Painters and Decorators. Shield shaped, was blue now mostly faded to a reddish brown colour, red fringe. Silver painted pole across the top. Obverse: at the top a dark green scroll with silver border on which in silver and red "OPERATIVE HOUSE & / SHIP PAINTERS / & DECORATORS", above and below the scroll decoraton. In the centre a shield, blue with a red and silver border, at the top in black "NATIONAL AMALGAMATED SOCIETY", under this a shield outlined in black, the blue of the larger shield showing, quartered, top left 3 shields in white, top right a white chevron with 3 gold griffins heads, 3 and 4 quarters reversed. At the top a helm surmounted by a Phoenix, the supporters are brown leopards with red and blue spots, gold collars, and gold coronet, under these a gold scroll with a red border, inscribed in red "AMOR ET OBEDNTIA", at the botton a dark green scroll iwth a silver border, inscribed in silver and red "NORTHERN IRELAND DISTRICT" sprays of leaves in silver, brown and green above and below. Reverse:- As obverse.
