The Life of William III


Full page Williamite Print showing a mass hanging. One bound man is being dragged up a ladder, another is begging for mercy on the ground, and several more are bound in a group on the left while King James looks on on horseback. The inscription in French refers to 'the cruelty of King James and the Count d'Avaux to the Protestants of Ireland'. The engraving is adapted from a view of events during the seige of Bonn, which was lost by Louis XIV in 1689 during the war in WEurope.The print is bound in a book containing 95 engravings depicting the life of William III.
