When 18 year old Robert Campbell emigrated to the United States in 1822, he never dreamed he would become an admired mountain man and fur trapper, a respected Indian blood brother, own steamships and gold mines, befriend American Presidents and accumulate a huge fortune. The papers of his relative, solicitor A. Albert Campbell (born Plumbridge 1865, died Belfast 1958), provide a fascinating insight into pioneer life on the American frontier, nineteenth-century life back home in Ireland and their unfolding family history.
