Embroidery linen

Description:

A square of plain cream linen, printed with a design for hand embroidery, in a stylised rose pattern surrounded by swags. The edges are finished with overlock stitching in cream thread. Panels such as this were used as the centre, or component parts of an embroidered tablecloth, or cushion cover. The marking of the pattern was done by staff in Copeland Linens using 'pricked' paper patterns and a pad of blue ink.
