Human Rights (for Ulster Now)

Poster issued by the British Government, showing a silhouetted man with arms raised against background of a rising sun. This poster was produced at the time of the twentieth anniversary of United Nations Day in October 1968. The United Nations was established on October 24th 1945 and United Nations Day was celebrated on that date from 1968. This poster would have appeared at the time of the 5 October 1968 march in Derry which is often seen as the starting date of the Troubles. The original poster contained the words ‘Human Rights’ to which have been added, ‘for Ulster now’.
