Irish harp

Description:

Irish Harp made in Long Kesh by John Davey. From North Antrim, Davey was a former IRA volunteer and was interned during the 1950s campaign. He then moved to South Derry and was interned again on 9th August 1971. He suffered serious head injuries during his arrest by soldiers. On his release from Long Kesh he helped to establish Sinn Fein in the South Derry area and worked for prisoners and their families around the time of the H Block hunger strike campaign. In 1985 Davey was elected to Magherafelt District Council. On 14th Feb 1989 Davey was murdered on his lane-way returning from a Council meeting in Magherafelt.
