I’m a part time student with the open university, studying for a diploma in Arts & Humanities.

What volunteering are you involved in with National Museums NI?

I started my volunteering on the cataloguing of NMNI’s documents and then I moved on to helping with the genealogy of the family homes on the Cultra site.

How did you hear about the role and why did you apply?

The role was advertised on twitter. As an amateur historian it was an ideal opportunity to gain extra knowledge.

Have you learnt anything new about National Museums NI that you didn’t know before?

I never realised just how much work NMNI does outside of their sites and within in schools/communities .

Have you learnt anything new about yourself through volunteering with us?

I’ve learnt that at any age there’s always something new to learn.

Tell us the best 3 things about volunteering with National Museums NI?

The staff are very welcoming and helpful.

There’s always something new to discover within the collections.

On a practical level the on-site catering and parking are very welcome.
