COVID-19 Update

Due to the latest guidance from the NI Executive, our museums will remain closed for a planned period ending on 11 December. We are excited to be putting the finishing touches to our plans for Christmas activities. We look forward to welcoming visitors back to our museums when it is safe to do so and we would like to thank the public for their continued support and patience.

Museums are uniquely placed to deal with issues of cultural diversity and distinctiveness, history and traditions. The resources that National Museums NI hold on behalf of everybody can help unlock creativity, inspire people and contribute to fostering positive community identity.

We are committed to providing programmes for the widest possible audiences and have worked in partnership with a range of organisations over the past number of years to develop and deliver programmes for a range of non-traditional audiences.

Our Social Inclusion Programme works with people in the most socially and economically disadvantaged areas of Northern Ireland.Participants in this programme consistently report that museum engagement delivers learning, creates enjoyment and provides them with inspiration. The majority of these people have not had any prior engagement with museums.

Summer schemes & youth groups

National Museums NI is committed to tackling poverty and social exclusion. Every year we offer free bespoke programmes for summer schemes from some of the most disadvantaged areas in Northern Ireland. Activities include digital engagement programmes, art and craft workshops, hands-on activities based on our touring exhibitions and visits to our farms to pet and feed the animals.
