Getting Around

We may look a little different, but we still feel the same

Our recommended routes, with various exit points, provide plenty of opportunity to enjoy our exhibitions at your leisure, whilst lessening the number of people in galleries at one time.

Reducing the number of visitors in certain galleries at one time ensures you have the space that you need to savour the experiences for as long as you like.

To help you navigate the recommended routes, placed markings on the floor direct you around the exhibition galleries. Our Visitor Team will be on hand throughout the galleries to answer your questions.

Our galleries are open for you to enjoy including the new Museum of Innovation in the Land, Sea and Sky galleries. To keep you and our staff safe we will be managing the number of visitors in the galleries at any one time and we have introduced a new one-way flow system.

We know you’ve missed being able to get on board our trains and trams, but now you can! With some changes so we can look after our much-loved vehicles. During the peak of the pandemic, we had to completely close off access to our trains and trams to keep you, and them, safe.

During your visit you will now be able to access a number of our carriages and engines on a rotational basis.

Why are we rotating access? Because we are still living with COVID-19 and your safety is still our top priority. Rotating our beloved trains will allow for the carriages and engines to quarantine thus removing the virus from the surfaces without causing damage to the artefacts themselves.

You’ll be exiting through a different door than you arrive but we have plenty of signs to keep you right.
