The early decades of the twentieth century saw the emergence of a number of confident women artists who, against the back drop of the Suffrage Movement, the First World War and developments in avant garde art in London and Paris, aimed to find their own unique artistic voice.

Formerly overshadowed by their husbands, brothers, lovers and male contemporaries, the painters Gwen John, Dame Laura Knight, Vanessa Bell and Winifred Nicholson along with Irish artists such as Mary Swanzy, Wilhelmina Geddes, Grace Henry, Mainie Jellett and Evie Hone, forged independent lives and artistic practice.

The course will take place every Tuesday from Tuesday 24 April until Tuesday 29 May.
