Discover History

Open the doorway to the past and come in to Discover History. There are activities for all the family to take part in and find out about how people lived in the past. Write your name in hieroglyphics, try on clothes from the past or feel the weight of chainmail. For those who want a special challenge, try putting back together a prehistoric skull. Then work out what type of weapon was used to cause the damage on the bone!

Discover Art

In Discover Art you can sit at the big workshop table and create art. There is always the chance to draw, to experiment, to play and to meet an artist. Most staff are practising artists so talk to them. Themes change about twice a year, as the exhibitions change and we try to find easy and fun ways for you to get involved.

Discover Nature

In Discover Nature be thrilled by the wonders of nature. Touch and handle real bones and fossils then listen for the sea in tropical shells. Open the drawers to be amazed by the patterns and colours of the butterflies and beetles. Explore our oak tree to find out who lives there. Don’t forget to use the binoculars to discover nature right on our doorstep.

Please note: the discovery centres close for lunch 13.00 – 14.00 and we sometimes close the discovery centres for booked groups.
